The Renwick Clifton House B&B

Gus Pedersen/Fine Furniture By Gustav Pedersen
To whom it may concern;
We own a bed and breakfast in the Saugerties NY area. Regretfully, a vanity bench that matched one of our bedroom suites was damaged. The bench contained 2 spindles and one of the spindles broke. We were very upset by this as we knew we would no longer find a replacement, nor did we think that the piece could be repaired without noticing that the damage had occurred. We contemplated purchasing another piece that didn't match, and then decided to seek out a professional that could repair the piece.

Howard & Irene Hurst – Storage wall
When that time came, we checked out websites, newspaper ads and asked around for carpenters to build a new cabinet to replace the one we had. We had spoken to three other people, each of whom proposed a replacement unit the same size and configuration as the one we already had. Your sign on Route 32 in Saugerties advertised you as a Fine Furniture Maker. We called you in out of curiosity and were amazed your proposals.

Dear Gus,
As part of a major refurbishing project, we decided to use the fireplace as a focal point in the living room. An important part of the plan was to redesign the fireplace. While I had some ideas for specific parts of the mantle, I was lacking a solid vision. As we talked about the fireplace, you were able to articulate the sense of what I was looking for, and in doing so your suggestions on how to tie them together proved invaluable.
Another important aspect of the project was the selection of hardwood.

Your suggestion to carve the mantle from cherry wood has worked wonderfully with our chosen rose and pale gold marble surround. I still cannot get over the fact that you purchased a cherry tree and had it milled so that you could make the most of the natural lines of the wood. One look and you know that this mantle is handcrafted.

Reformed Church of Saugerties
One day, on a cleaning binge at the Reformed church on Main Street, this old lectern was discovered in the basement beneath the Chapel. It wasn't in the pristine condition you see here, but was painted black, battered and worn. Our good fortune was to discover that Gus Pedersen, whom we knew as a musician, was a master woodworker as well. We were delighted when he transformed this lectern into a beautiful work of art. Going to his shop to retrieve the piece gave us the opportunity to see some of his other wonderful creations. His generous donation of time and effort restoring this piece of church history is greatly appreciated. One day soon it will take its place in the main sanctuary. Thanks Gus!
